Wishbone does kids’ food southern style with prices parents like

What do you get when you mix warm cornbread and spicy jambalaya? In my house, you get happy parents and three skeptical sons. But multiple trips to Wishbone have made all of us true believers in the comforts of good southern cooking. With two city locations and one in Berwyn, Wishbone provides a convenient, delicious and reasonably priced option for families.

We’ve visited the cozy Berwyn location many times for both breakfast and dinner and always find the food delicious and atmosphere relaxed. The restaurant has, in fact, become a breakfast hot spot because of its options for non egg-eaters like my oldest son. He has fallen hard for the vegetarian black bean cakes (who knew?) served with sautéed spinach instead of eggs. We’ve also tried the biscuits and gravy and breakfast red beans and rice.

It offers a huge menu for adults, plus specific kid-friendly and kid-priced options. My 7-year-old always orders the One-Eyed Susan (a fried egg in the center of a piece of toast) and a Fruit Monkey (a fruit cup with a variety of fresh fruit).

Lunch and dinner menus offer a huge array of choices. I’m partial to the restaurant’s seafood, always struggling to decide between blackened catfish and crawfish cakes. The jambalaya is excellent. Most entrees are served with your choice of two side dishes, everything from collard greens to sweet potatoes and, my favorite, sautéed spinach. The kids’ menu has staples southern style-the chicken is not nuggets, but a breaded, sliced chicken breast; the mac and cheese is homemade, not from a box.

Wishbone is not a kids’ restaurant, but everything about the locations and menus beckons to families who want to eat out.
