Major league fun at a minor league price: Windy City Thunderbolts

With a growing family and a number of nieces and nephews, my husband and I are always trying to find ways to do things around the area without breaking the bank.

Many of the complaints for the major league sports are that they cost an arm and a leg just to step into the stadium. Add in the cost of food, and you practically need a second mortgage just to take your family out for a night of fun.

One way to help your budget without sacrificing fun is to check out a Windy City Thunderbolts game at Standard Bank Stadium.

This professional minor league baseball team based out of Crestwood, Ill. offers a great opportunity to experience a major league evening at a minor league price.

The team and staff are accessible and friendly. The stadium frequently offers promotions such as 50-cent hot dog Wednesdays and local school organization incentive programs. They also host a variety of fun events during some of the home games such as Standard Bank Family Days or fireworks on Saturday evenings.

Ticket pricing is extremely affordable and starts at just $8 for an upper deck box seat. They also offer a wide variety of group and party pricing. A group with a minimum of 20 receives one reserved box seat and a coupon for hot dog, chips, soda and ice cream, starting at just $13 per person.

We have also attended a birthday party at the park in the past and were pleasantly surprised at all that was included for the price. If my boys did not both have birthdays in January, this would be at the top of our list. Don’t forget a picture with their mascot, Boomer!

A Windy City ThunderBolts game provides a family-friendly atmosphere that is perfect for your next family night out or group get-together.
