Whip up Dad’s favorite foods this Father’s Day

Papa, vater, papi, père, padre — no matter how you say it, dad is a great person to celebrate. Give him the great taste of barbecue on his special day. Just add a green salad and juicy watermelon and his special meal is complete. Kids of all ages can help get these recipes on the table in no time.

Dad’s Favorite Ribs

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar 
  • 1/4 cup paprika 
  • 3 tablespoons granulated garlic 
  • 3 tablespoons granulated onion 
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard 
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin 
  • 1/4 cup kosher salt 
  • 2 pounds baby back ribs 
  • 1 bottle prepared barbecue sauce
Directions
  1. These mouth-watering ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender. And, since they’re cooked in foil, clean up is a snap.
  2. Mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic, onion, pepper, mustard, cumin and salt in a small bowl.
  3. Tear off a piece of heavy duty foil that is 2 1/4 times as long as each rack of ribs; coat with cooking spray. Place each rack of ribs on a piece of foil; sprinkle the seasoning mixture all over both sides of the ribs. Fold the foil to completely wrap the ribs. Place on a baking sheet; refrigerate for four-eight hours.
  4. Place foil-wrapped ribs on a baking sheet; bake in a 350 degree oven for two hours. Remove from oven and carefully open foil pouch. Brush both sides of the ribs with a generous amount of barbecue sauce. Return to oven. Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes or until bubbling. Makes 4-6 servings.

Cheesy Herb Bread 

Ingredients
  • 4 hoagie rolls, split
  • Cheesy Herb Butter (Recipe below)
  • Lime zest (The secret ingredient. It is unexpected, but delicious.)
Directions
  1. Spread the cut sides of the hoagie rolls generously with the Cheesy Herb Butter.
  2. Place buttered side up on a baking sheet.
  3. Broil for 2-3 minutes or until golden.
  4. Makes 4 servings.

Cheesy Herb Corn 

Ingredients
  • 4 large ears of corn, husked
  • Cheesy Herb Butter (Recipe below)
Directions
  1. Brush each ear of corn with a generous amount of Cheesy Herb Butter.
  2. Wrap in foil, place on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Makes 4 servings.

Cheesy Herb Butter 

Ingredients
  • 1 pound unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 Tablespoons minced fresh basil or cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
  1. Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Cover and set aside.
  2. Makes 1 pound of butter.
