While we’ll miss the warm summer weather, fall has a lot of perks: sweater weather, pumpkin spice everything and the chance to decorate for a new season. If your home is in need of a little refresh, devote some time this weekend to sprucing up your space with these simple tips.
Clear out the junk.
You may clean out your closet fairly often, but what about the rest of the house? It’s time to dive deep into the mayhem going on in your kid’s craft bins, the kitchen pantry and that under-the- bathroom-sink area that’s housing hair products from the early 2000’s. Grab some organizing bins and get to work. It’s much easier to get it done now before the craziness of the holiday season begins.
Deep clean your house.
A new season is the perfect time to start with a (literally) clean slate. Vacuum those dusty corners, dust your shelves and wash all of the things you never think to clean (curtains, anyone?). Replace worn out rugs and hand towels to liven up your bathroom. Your mind will feel clearer when your space is cleaner, trust me.
Switch things up.
Want new decor, but don’t want to spend a fortune? Throw pillow covers are a cheap and easy way to change your living room’s look for a new season. Ikea and Amazon have a large selection of cute and affordable options. Rearranging furniture is another quick and inexpensive trick for making a room look fresh.
Finally frame those memories.
It’s time to show off all those cute photos sitting on your phone. Make it easy and convenient by using Shutterfly or another printing service. Hit up the clearance aisle at Target or TJ Maxx for some cheap picture frames and get to styling those walls and shelves.
Use paint to transform a space.
I have a sad looking upstairs bathroom that is just begging for a fresh coat of paint. I’m sure you also have a room that’s in need of a little facelift. Head to your nearest home improvement store and check out their selection of paint swatches. If you’re not sure what color to go with, white always makes a space look cleaner and brighter.
Embrace the autumnal vibes.
Maybe you’re not a big fan of decorating for Halloween, but who can resist a pretty, new front door wreath? They’re easy enough to DIY if you’re in the mood to be creative. Want to make your front porch even more festive? Visit your local garden center for mums in shades of burgundy and cream. Cozy up your living room with fall scented candles and a soft throw blanket, perfect for those chilly evenings.
