Each January, my 5-year-old starts asking,"When are we going to Moose Mountain Falls?”
The water park in the Timber Ridge Lodge at the Grand Geneva Resort has become our annual weekend trip for good reason. Located just over the Wisconsin border in Lake Geneva, Timber Ridge is a resort that puts family first.
Traveling with three young boys can be a hassle even for a weekend excursion, but the moment they see the horses grazing at the resort’s entrance my sons move into fun-mode. Even the lobby, complete with oversized checkers boards and a huge picture window overlooking Moose Mountain Falls, makes check-in easier.
The rooms are good sized and come equipped with kitchens. But, really, this trip is not about the room. It’s about the water park. Moose Mountain Falls has indoor and outdoor pools, slides, fountains and even a lazy river. Older kids and adults can shoot water hoops, enjoy the hot tub or try one of the two giant tube slides. School-age kids can slide solo or with an adult on the inner-tube slide.
While my husband and oldest sons do those things, I’m content to splash around in the kiddie-pool with my toddler. It has its own smaller slides, splashers and zero-depth fun, including a tree house view of the older kids’ pool. We grab some towels in the morning, find a table and spend the entire day poolside. The pool area has its own Hungry Moose Food Court with drinks and food.
When our skin starts to prune, we change into dry clothes and hit the arcade or one of the many scheduled activities for little kids.
For dinner we either have pizzas delivered to our room or we head to the hotel restaurant, Smokey’s Bar-B-Que House. The food is good, but on busy weekends we’ve found the service too slow to suit our needs.
Rates begin at $129 per night. Holiday weekends book early. Visit www.timberridgeresort.com or call (866) 636-4502 for reservations or information.
