Travel deals just keep on comin’

The travel industry’s pain is our gain these days. There are travel deals everywhere. If you have even a little extra cash, take advantage of these amazing deals to show your kids the world.

Here’s a sampling the travel deals that have arrived in my email in just the last 24 hours:

Fly American Airlines from Chicago to Orlando for $79 each way, from Chicago to Raleigh NC for $69 each way or from MIlwaukee to St. Louis for $39 each. Prices don’t include taxes, there are restrictions listed in the fine print and the deals end today.

Stay in Los Cabos for $79 a night or Cancun for $73 a night. These deals come from Fiesta Americana. I’ve never I stayed at a Fiesta Americana Vacation Club property. Nor have I been to Los Cabos (it’s on my bucket list). But I have been to Cancun (in fact, we’re headed back there in November for a wedding) and while Cancun hardly feels like a part of Mexico, it is a great place to lay on the beach and be warmed by the sun. If you have visited Los Cabos or stayed at a Fiesta Americana, post a comment here and let your fellow Chicago parents know whether they are good choices for families.

Unrestricted all season ski pass for Crystal Mountain in northern Michigan for $249. I love Crystal Mountain. The beautiful, sprawling resort has all kinds of accommodations, including huge townhouses with plenty of room for two families. We visited last summer with another family and had a great time. Both sets of parents had private bedrooms (always a nice plus on a family vacation) and the four kids took over the lower level, where they had their own TV, bunk beds and whatever else they needed to stay happy. Since our last visit the resort opened a gorgeous new spa, another nice vacation plus.

And when you’re traveling, help hold down the cost by doing the free things. Every town has free stuff to do. Ask the locals. Ask the hotel people. Ask the convention and visitors bureau. Or visit and check out the Free in the 50 States feature to see if there’s a listing for the place you plan to visit.
