Train museum chugs along in Ohio

There is something magnificent and mesmerizing for kids about a train riding along the tracks. Dubbed the “world’s largest indoor train display,” EnterTRAINment Junction displays 25,000 square feet of model trains. Located 25 minutes outside of downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, the family entertainment center not only displays more trains than your kids have ever seen, it helps connect kids to trains through interactive displays, a play area and the American Railroading Museum.

The two miles of track that make up the Train Journey, the entertainment center’s core, hold 1,200 G-scale train cars, creating 90 large-scale trains in total. The Train Journey, which has been created 100 percent by volunteers, is a maze of scenes traveling from the mid-1800s through present day railroading. But the Train Journey isn’t simply looking at a giant train display; the center offers a “Can You Find?” hunt which you can grab at the ticket counter.

In the middle of the journey is the Imagination Junction, a great intermission from exploring train displays. With a Thomas the Tank Engine play area, a play structure and motorized train rides, the Imagination Junction provides little ones a chance to burn off some extra energy.

Kids can ride vintage hand-cranked railroad cars around on the Kids Express, an outdoor track by the front entrance. Kids Express is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting and costs an extra $2.50.

EnterTRAINment Junction also offers an Expo Center, where your family can watch volunteers at work and seasonal attractions, including walk-throughs that change with most of the seasons. During the summer months, for instance, your kids can explore the Junction Funhouse, which includes a spinning black hole and hurricane room. The center also houses a café.

EnterTRAINment Junction is a work in progress, so each return visit will have new additions to discover. Admission is $12.95, $11.50 seniors 65 and older, $9.95 kids 3-12 and free kids 2 and under.
