Top 5 | back-to-school supplies for moms

You’ve bought the kids’ glue sticks, binders and gym shoes. Now it’s time to stock up on the supplies you need to start this school year off in style.

  • Back-to-school shoes. You’ve traded study halls and lunch lines for work, play dates and the dreaded carpool line. You need some good shoes. Check out Ugg’s Gael clog. It feels like a slipper and has a stylish wedge that is comfortable and leg lengthening when wearing your favorite jeans. I like for all things shoes.

  • Mom jeans. The term “mom jeans” is synonymous with heinous. But the revolutionary brand, Not Your Daughter’s Jeans, is changing all that. This company has made it possible for hip moms everywhere to buy “skinny” and “straight leg” styles without the whole “legs-in-sausage-casing” look. You can find NYDJs at Nordstrom.

  • A new “book bag.” This fall opt for an inexpensive, yet uber chic, bag that can handle all the messes a mom’s life serves up.

  • Required reading. We’re about to spend more time waiting for our kids during lessons, practices and that whole carpool line business. Instead of reading a big ol’ book, try:

    • Esquire. Meant for dudes, it’ll give you a glimpse into the mysterious guy psyche and you can rip out the looks you want your man to try.

    • Vanity Fair. The articles housed here are like mini-books. They’re always super well written and intriguing.

    • O, The Oprah Mag. The “Ask Adam” fashion column is worth the price of the whole thing.

  • The carpool survival kit: Grab a fabric shower caddy or cool under-the-seat box and fill it with the following:

    • A CD of your favorite tunes

    • A mini manicure kit

    • Some dark chocolate

    • A sign that says “peace, love and cupcakes.”
