The kids may be back in school, but festival season is still in full swing. This weekend there are three different and unique festivals happening in Lake County that you don’t want to miss.
Each offers different cultural and entertainment experiences the whole family will love.
24th Annual Potawatomi Trails Pow-Wow
Aug. 26-27, Shiloh Park, Zion
The Pow Wow is a celebration of Native American Heritage and an educational event to bring awareness to the Native American traditions, history and customs. Activities include demonstrations, music and dance presentations, educational sessions and a trading post. See the Potawatomi Pow Wow Website for a full schedule of events.
Venetian Night
Aug. 26, Pistakee Lake, Fox Lake
The Chain of Lakes has had a rough summer being closed for almost a month due to the flooding in July, all the more reason to visit for this rescheduled event! The block party will start at 6 p.m. with the boat parade at 7:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “Anything Goes on the Chain” and fireworks will follow the parade at dusk. More information on their Facebook page.
Color Aloft Hot Air Balloon Festival
Aug. 26, Central Park, Grayslake
The most colorful event of the summer happens in the tiny village of Grayslake. The Color Aloft Balloon Festival features Civil War-era baseball games, children’s activities, storytelling, business booths and a Fox and Hound Balloon Race. At night, the balloons are inflated and glow. Balloon take off is weather dependent. See my story from last year on tips, tricks and where to eat when you’re in Grayslake.
