Talent search hits Chicago: Is this your kid’s chance to make their mark?

Here’s your kid’s chance to make their mark! This summer Disney Channel’s hit show “Shake It Up” is touring the nation on a talent search for a kid with passion and talent in the art of dancing. It’s called “Make Your Mark: The Ultimate Dance Off” and it truly is! What’s so enticing? The chance to be a guest star on the show of course!

If your kids love to dance and want to try out, anyone from the age of 8 to 16 can enter and get the chance to not only guest star on “Shake It Up,” but also meet the cast. Kids should make a video of themselves and submit it online (details below) by July 31.

On July 16, Make Your Mark stopped in Chicago for in-person auditions. We had the opportunity to pull aside a few of the dancers and speak with them.

Myranda Scott, 13, of Flossmoor, said that she wanted to try out because “I really love to dance and I love Shake it Up Chicago.” Myranda says she’s been dancing for a “really long time” and her mom is the one who told her she should audition while Make Your Mark was holding auditions July 16 at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.

After a few hours of auditions, a special guest came to show off his moves. It was none other than Roshon Fegan, Ty Blue on “Shake It Up.” He was all smiles as he first performed his two hit singles and then did a meet and greet with his fans. Afterwards, we were given the chance to sit down and talk with Roshon.

Q: Do you have any advice for kids who want to start a career like yours professionally?

A: “Just don’t stop. It gets crazy and a lot of times, things get out of control where you don’t really know what to do and if you should stick to something, but the number one thing is if you love to do it, then do it.”

Q: What should other parents know if their kids want to pursue a career like yours?

A: “Again, they have to have your support. That’s important. It depends on what they want to do. If they want to do acting, it’s a lot of work, a lot of back and forth, a lot of rejecting. Rejecting is number one…You can’t come up if you don’t go down first.”

Q: Can you explain a little bit about the Make Your Mark project?

A: “Make your Mark: It’s awesome; it’s amazing. It’s definitely something that kids around the world are super excited about…It’s just a really exciting event ’cause everyone loves to dance and to be able to really participate in something so big with this hit show and all the excitement. It’s really fun, so I’m glad to be a part of it.”

So there you have it. If you want to be a dancer or an actor, it’s all about never giving up. Parents play a big role as well.
