Celebrating spring in the South suburbs

Hooray! The birds are finally chirping, the green grass is starting to appear under the weight of snow melting and the flowers are preparing to start budding. Here are some great ways  and places to enjoy spring this coming year in the south suburbs.

Lake Katherine,

Palos Heights

The Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens offers a beautiful landscape for viewing spring through fresh eyes. A nature center with activities for kids of all ages and a beautiful walking and running trail for exercise make this beautiful location a must stop for you this spring.

Amplify: Bring the garden indoors when you build an indoor greenhouse and watch the plants grow.

Little Red Schoolhouse,

Willow Springs

Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center features a historic schoolhouse and modern visitor’s center with live animals, exhibits, children’s activity room and more. In addition to programs for kids, Little Red Schoolhouse offers a variety of outdoor walking trails and paths to explore on beautiful days. This is one of our favorite spots and the boys love trying to find animals along the way.

Amplify: Couple this with a nature scavenger hunt for a well-rounded learning experience.

Palos Heights Art Garden,

Palos Heights

The Art Garden is a community gathering place and inspirational retreat for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Permanent and temporary sculptures and exhibits are featured in an eco-friendly garden setting. The marriage of nature and art come together in this beautiful south suburban display.
