Out and about
Between work and family life, there is never an ordinary day in the Balster home, especially when Tim saws Robin in half.
The Darien couple has traveled nationally and internationally with their company, Balster Magic Productions.
“The challenges are that you never stop working,” says Robin, mom of two young boys."The rewards are a lot of togetherness and family experiences.”
Much of that time together is hard, hard work, driving all across the country with their trailer of tricks, which includes a stage, Waldo the duck and a group of doves.
Robin grew up in show business. Her parents were figure skaters who organized a show she began performing in when she was young.
Tim began performing at 10. Inspired by the magician on Bozo’s Circus, he bought his first magic trick and was hooked. By high school, he figured out he could do magic for a living.
When the boys were very young, they traveled everywhere with their parents. Now since Douglas is 9 and William is 6, they travel with their parents only during the summer and school breaks.
“Because the schedule is so (varied), it’s challenging to make sure the bases are covered with child care,” Robin says. Family helps out.
