Try this on-the-go option for busy Chicago families

For eating breakfast on the run, smoothies make a great morning option. My daughter loves picking out her own ingredients, pushing the pulse button on the blender, and watching her creation turn into a delicious morning shake! I like that it is healthy and a fun way to start the day!

To create a smoothie that fuels your body, mix and match from these nutritious ingredients.

Yields two smoothies.

Step 1: Make a base

1 cup low fat or fat free yogurt + ¾ cup of liquid (any kind of milk, fruit or veggie juice, ice, or coconut water)

Step 2: Choose fruits and veggies, 2 cups of any combo

  • Berries
  • Banana
  • Mango
  • Lemon or lime
  • Baby spinach
  • Kale

Step 3: Add a health boost with protein

  • 1 Tbsp. ground flaxseed
  • 1 Tbsp. Whey Protein Powder
  • 2 Tbsp. Nut butter
  • 1 package of your favorite flavor of Jolly Oak Granola
