Kid-tested travel

If your family has been bitten by the Elmo bug, Sesame Place, near Philadelphia in Langhorne, Pa., is the place to go. The only theme park in the nation based on the award-winning Sesame Street show, this hidden treasure is a dream come true for fans of Big Bird and the gang.

It is not nearly half as big as the amusement parks in Florida or California, but is just the right size for the little ones in your family. The parade of characters is a treat.

The park features more than 20 wet and dry attractions for kids of all ages ranging from Sesame-themed spinning tea cups, water slides, raft rides, a lazy river and much more. The Elmo’s World area is best suited for the under 3 age group who can enjoy new rides like the Flyin’ Fish and Peek-A-Bug.

My 2-year-old daughter still talks about the‘Elmo show,’ a live version of the Elmo’s World segment that airs on Sesame Street weekday mornings. The set is identical to what the kids watch on TV, with audience participation and, of course, Elmo.

There are lots of photo opportunities around the park with your favorite characters ready to pose or give a hug. If you want to splurge, you can have a meal with the characters—breakfast with Cookie Monster and friends, for instance, starts at $16.95 for adults and $14.95 for kids ages 2-11.
