I remember it like it was yesterday. My Mom took me to a performance of the New York City Ballet, at their summer ‘home’ at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga, New York. I think I was six years old.I recall wearing a new dress and strolling with Mom on the lawn at the outdoor amphitheater. I’ll have to ask her if we had seats under cover – I think so. Odd that I don’t recall the ballet they performed, but I’ll never forget the feeling of the warm sun on my face or how excited I felt, in anticipation of the performance.
I can hardly wait for this Saturday, when I’ll get to take my daughter to her first Ballet! It’ll be her 9
th
birthday, so that will make it extra special. Funny, but she’s performed in a ballet (two years ago she danced the role of a “Barbaloot” in the Naperville Park District’s adaptation of “The Lorax”) but never seen one for herself.
