Contest offers room makeovers for moms

If you’re so done with man caves and playrooms and everything else that’s about giving everyone but moms a space of their own, this contest is for you. The local design team of Divas N’ Design is planning to give one harried Chicago-area mom a mom cave of her own-a $20,000 re-do in her home.

“Everything in our home, and I’m a mom too so I know this, is not our own-the kitchen is not my own space, same goes for the laundry room, which I’m in quite often,” says Karyn Musick, president of Chicago-based Divas N’ Design. “I think it’s important for moms to have their own sanctuary where they go, a retreat for them to clear their mind.”

The mom cave can be anything from a whole room to a corner or nook mom wants to call her own. The contest winner will meet with the designers to talk about her likes and dislikes, but they’ll take it from there, surprising her with the final product.

To win, submit stories, photos and videos to mom-cave.com. The most outrageous stories will be highlighted weekly on Facebook and the top 10 with the most “likes” will be finalists for the prize, announced on Mother’s Day, May 13.

“We’re looking for the best story. We’re not going as much by the pictures of the space they’re sending us as much as the story of why they need it,” Musick says. “We’re looking for the most outrageous story.”
