The most romantic getaways for Chicago couples, near and far

At this point, you’d settle for a date night consisting of take out and a made-for-TV movie. (Which, in all honesty, sounds magnificent.)

But dream with me here, folks.

Imagine a world where grandma’s got the kids. A world where you and your special someone can walk downtown, hop in the car or take off on a plane and emerge in a nirvana of spa treatments and fuzzy white robes, a utopia of candlelit dining and gorgeous scenery or a paradise of adventure and grown-up conversation.

These getaways are couple tested and approved as incredibly romantic. Imagination, meet reality.

These trips will have you feeling all the feels.

Luxurious doesn’t even begin to describe a night at The Langham. This is an elegant Chicago retreat fit for the Obamas. The best part of this romantic escape is that it’s right downtown, so the stress of travel is gone and you have more time to focus on relaxation.

With the River Romance package, you’ll find yourself in a Grand King or Suite that you’ll never want to leave. And with a giant, dreamy bed, a complimentary bottle of bubbly, floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Chicago River, a swanky mini-bar full of gourmet candies and snacks and Bluetooth speakers to spark a little slow-dancing action, you won’t need to.

But you absolutely have to tear yourself away at some point to experience the wonder that is the Chuan Spa. With the River Romance package, you get 20 percent off any 60-minute treatment, aka one hour in heaven. The couples’ massage is highly recommended. Just walking in the door of the spa will have you feeling more tranquil than you have in the past year.

Make sure to leave plenty of time to explore the spa’s other amenities.

In the morning, enjoy an American breakfast for two in bed at your leisure.

Since it’s the subject of the Guns N’ Roses’ track “Paradise City,” you have some idea of what to expect from this picturesque lake town tucked in southern Wisconsin. Less than two hours from Chicago, Lake Geneva is an ideal weekend trip for harried parents looking for a little peace and quiet.

From the quaint antique shops in town to the lakefront mansions, the local, friendly restaurants and the beautiful hiking and biking trails, everything about this place is so charming, you’ll be falling in love with more than just your significant other.

For a real treat, stay at the Grand Geneva Resort. Just a few minutes from the lake, this resort was originally a Playboy Club Hotel but is now a cozy, cabin-like retreat for couples and families.

Stay comfy in the room with a book by the fireplace, head to the WELL Spa + Salon for some much-needed R&R or grab a drink by the fire pit overlooking the water.

In chilly temps, you can explore ice skating and skiing on the resort grounds. Or don’t leave the warmth at all with superb dining options such as Geneva ChopHouse and Ristoranté Brissago in the resort itself.

Couples should take advantage of the fun classes and activities at the hotel, such as a beer and cheese tasting or cooking class.

A weekend in Lake Geneva is as enchantingly soothing or as enjoyably bustling as you want it to be, which is why you’ll most likely be daydreaming about moving to one of the mansions on the lake by Sunday evening.

Mountain-lovers, listen up. Park City is without a doubt the most magical little ski town around and is exactly the snowy trip you have to take with your valentine this winter.

Thanks to an easy flight from O’Hare, Chicagoans can be on the slopes in less than four hours. But the convenience of a trip to Park City isn’t the biggest reason to go. This gem of a retreat is ideal for a romantic getaway: Everything here is drop-dead, postcard-ready gorgeous.

Majestic fireplaces crackling in every room. Evergreen trees lining every road. Twinkle lights lacing every building. And the locals are extremely welcoming and excited to show off their little spot on the mountain.

As strange as it sounds, make sure you go during snowy weather. As many Park City residents will tell you, they’ve got the best snow in the world, which means that you’ll have best ski experience of your life no matter your skill level. Park City also makes a pretty spectacular place to learn. (Not to mention all the romantic moments of falling in the snow together.)

Hoping for some romance but also have little ones tagging along? Not a problem–youth classes and daycare options all over the mountain make it possible to give the kids the time of their lives while mom and dad indulge in alone time.

You really can’t go wrong with any of the beautiful lodge-style resorts such as the Waldorf Astoria, Montage Deer Valley, Stein Eriksen Lodge and the St. Regis Deer Valley, each with a to-die-for spa. Every one offers something special, from horse-drawn sleigh rides to fireside dining to mountain-view hot tubs.

It’s the kind of magic that’ll leave you wistfully dreaming of oversized sweaters, hot chocolate and snowflakes all year long.
