Risky texting on the go

Short stuff: Health roundup

Experts are warning about the dangers of texting at inappropriate times, a trend leading to accidents and emergency room visits for texters or others around them.

For teens and tweens, many of whom can almost text blindfolded, being distracted by thinking about a response while doing something else puts their brains in a position to give one of those tasks the short end of the stick.

That means a tween crossing a busy street may be paying too much attention to texting instead of checking to make sure the crosswalk is clear. So remind your tweens it’s thumbs off the keypad when walking or biking, especially in areas with heavy traffic.
