ast month, Kids in Danger, together with U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., Cara Smith from the Illinois Attorney General’s office and Brian Imus of Illinois PIRG, released its annual report on children’s product recalls.

The report found that recalls in 2007 reached nearly record-breaking levels, with 231 recalls accounting for more than 46 million items."These products together caused at least 657 injuries and six deaths,” stated Nancy Cowles, executive director of Kids In Danger."… More needs to be done to protect children from these hazards.”

Recent recalls include:

Children’s trailer bikes (assorted brands) by Pacific Cycle Inc. pose a fall hazard because the coupler connecting the children’s trailer bike to the adult’s bicycle has welds that can fail.

2008 Scalpel mountain bikes by Cannondale have frames that can break.

BabyTown pacifiers by Shims Bargain Inc. pose a choking hazard.

My First Kenmore Play Stoves by Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Kmart Corp. can tip over when the door is opened.

Battat Magnabild magnetic building systems by Battat Inc. contain small magnets that can be swallowed or aspirated.

Baby Einstein Baby Neptune Soothing Seascape crib toys by Kids II Inc. have anchors that can detach, posing a choking hazard.

Girls’ hooded jackets by AJBlue LLC, Bonafide and children’s sweatshirts by Seventy Two Inc. have drawstrings that pose a strangulation hazard.

Sterling Silver teethers by Elegant Baby and Baby Needs Inc. have hearts and cars that can break off, posing a choking hazard.

Trek MT220 girls bicycles by Trek Bicycle Corp. have frames that can break.
