From princesses to pooches

FIREHOUSE DOG. When Rex, a famous Hollywood dog, is rescued by the rebellious son of a fire department captain, he becomes an impressive rescue hero, boosts the morale of the firefighters, helps solve a crime and brings a father and son closer together.

Rated PG, for a few rough words and the expected"potty” humor, children will enjoy the dog’s tricks and antics—especially when Rex cleans the boy’s room and rides a skateboard.

Fox Home Entertainment, suggested retail price $29.98. Running time: 111 minutes.

BEVERLY CLEARY’S RALPH S. MOUSE. We loved the book and now it’s time to see the story come to life as Ralph the mouse persuades his human friend to bring him to school. This DVD also includes two additional stories sure to entertain the preschool and early elementary set:"Stanley and the Dinosaurs” and"Uncle Elephant.” All three stories are part of Scholastic Book’s adaptation of classic children’s books.

SANTA CLAUSE 3: THE ESCAPE CLAUSE. In part three of the Santa Clause movies, Tim Allen brings his in-laws to the North Pole to spend the holidays with Santa and their daughter, Mrs. Claus. When Jack Frost shows up unexpectedly, he puts the freeze on all things Christmas and tricks Santa into giving up his gig. Soon it’s up to Santa to save Christmas and get his job back, without losing his wife, who is rapidly losing patience with the North Pole antics. Good holiday fun.

This film is rated G. Released by Walt Disney, suggested retail price $29.99. Running time: 92 minutes.

ENCHANTED TALES. Disney gets it right in its latest princess DVD. We especially liked the new Sleeping Beauty story in which Aurora is put in charge of the entire kingdom while her father, the king, is away. She learns the hard way that if she perseveres she can solve the villagers’ many problems without magic.

This film is not rated. Buena Vista Home Entertainment, suggested retail price $26.99. Running time: 60 minutes.

MAGGIE AND THE FEROCIOUS BEAST: SOMEWHERE IN NOWHERE LAND. There’s nothing like friendship and friendship is exactly what your kids will get from this new"Maggie” video.
