Play in the Middle of State Street

For the first time ever, State Street will become a pedestrian-only zone where families can play, walk, bike and enjoy healthy recreation in the heart of the Loop.

From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 Open Streets on State Street will create a safe public space in a car-free setting where families can exercise and play. Activities will include a skate park where kids can take a lesson or watch the pros; Imagination Playground, a 500-square-foot movable playground with blocks, crates, sand and water; and a scavenger hunt to discover the “hidden gems” of State Street.

For this event, State Street will be closed to vehicles for a seven-block stretch from Lake to Van Buren.

Open Streets is free, as are the many activities. Many State Street restaurants and businesses are also offering discounts during this time.

There will also be a United Way booth where visitors can learn about opportunities to do good in the community.
