Percussion workshop for kids

If your Tupperware collection too often doubles as a drum set, A Paragon of Percussion hits just the right note. Bienen School of Music students demonstrate the booming world of percussion and showcase the unusual rhythmic sounds they can make.

Be prepared to cover your ears at the end of the performance, when kids can bring a favorite percussion instruments-or pots and pans from the kitchen-for a jam session. You’ll be shake-rattle-and-rolling all the way home.

Recommended for kids 3-8. $6, $4 kids. 10:30 a.m. Nov. 5. Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, 50 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston. (847) 467-4000, pickstaiger.org.
