Have you heard The Orchid Show is back at the Chicago Botanic Garden? It’s the perfect opportunity for those longing for a little dose of spring. But don’t leave your little ones behind, because they can have fun, too!
Here are six reasons kids will love The Orchid Show:
Pretty flowers
Who doesn’t love looking at beautiful flowers, right? At The Orchid Show you’ll find gorgeous flowers in all shapes, colors and sizes. It was fun having the kids pick out their favorite color or flower. My 2-year-old daughter loved anything that was pink.
It’s indoors
If you’ve grown tired of the weather, rest assured you’ll be warm and comfortable inside the greenhouse. No worries about freezing tushies which is always a plus in my eyes!
Everything is easy to see
The orchids are located all around you, many of which are at perfect eye level for little ones for easy viewing. In fact, you can get pretty close to the orchids–sometimes a little too close for those little hands, so watch them closely.
There’s a smelling station
My kiddos enjoyed sniffing the sweet fragrances containing orchids. Or maybe they couldn’t get enough of squeezing the bulb of the fragrance puffer? Either way, it was fun to associate these exotic flowers with an everyday item.
It’s the perfect place to play iSpy
It was fun searching for different animals/figures throughout such as an armadillo-shaped bush or even dresses made out of flowers.
There are more than orchids
When they got tired of looking at all the pretty flowers (I know, the nerve!) we headed to the desert greenhouse for a change of scenery. It was exactly what they needed as I’ve never seen them so fascinated with all the different kinds of cacti.
Tips to enjoy The Orchid Show:
Visit on Mondays at 10 a.m. for storytime at the Lenhardt Library next to the entrance.
It may be hard to navigate through the greenhouse path with a large stroller, and while there is stroller parking, it would be a great idea to wear your baby if possible.
Buy parking in advance for faster entry. Visitors can save more than 30 percent with a special online package that includes parking and two tickets.
