Get out and play

Have a howling good time this Saturday at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Fifth Annual Reindog Parade. For four hours only, costumed canines will be allowed to accompany their humans in the garden.

Registration is from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., judging takes place noon-1 p.m. and the parade steps off at 1:15 p.m. Pups and their humans must be costumed to march behind Santa and his giant candy cane baton. Prizes will be awarded at 2:15 p.m. There will be opportunities to take the pooch and the kids for a visit and photos with Santa and watch demonstrations by dog experts.

If you are a dog-less family or your pooch isn’t up for this kind of merriment, you can still join in on the fun. The garden offers"Winter Wonders” Family Drop-in Activities from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends through Dec. 24 and daily Dec. 26-Jan. 6. Participants can create tree jewelry to feed the birds, explore different kinds of snowflakes and make their own snowflake and touch and smell various examples of pinecones and conifers.

Dog registration is $19, admission is free, but parking fees apply for non-members. The Chicago Botanic Garden is located at 1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. For more information, visit www.chicagobotanic.org or call (847) 835-5440.
