A new law in New York state expands the workplace rights of nannies and other domestic workers, guaranteeing perks enjoyed by other workers – overtime pay, a minimum of one day of rest per week and at least three days of paid leave per year – to nannies.
The law is the first of its kind in the nation. It’s aimed at curbing the worst of the abuses of domestic workers – like the woman convicted of enslaving a nanny for two years – and ?? says many families already offer benefits more generous than those included in the law.
There is no similar law being considered in Springfield, but Illinois has a history as labor-friendly legislature.
