Because Mother’s Day is on Sunday, I have been dreaming of what my perfect day would look like. Cue the dreamy music …
My dream: I would sleep in, of course, and wake up to the smell of Cacao Sweets & Treats cinnamon rolls that my husband remembered to pre-order and pick up on Saturday.
Make it your reality: Cacao Sweets & Treats (122 Center St., Grayslake) is hosting a one-stop, pop-up shop on May 9, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. or until they’re sold out. The shop will feature Cacao’s amazing sweets as well as cards from Bubbly & Bean Art and Kirkland House Press, flower arrangements from Windrose Flowers and jewelry from Mi Line. It won’t even look like you waited until the last minute!
My dream: After breakfast, my husband would whisk the kids off on an adventure, so that I could do whatever I want. They will think I am going to go for a run or take a bath, but really I’m going to lay in bed and watch Gossip Girl on Netflix.
Make it your reality: Send dad to the Open Family Swim at Sachs Recreation Center (435 Lake Cook Rd., Deerfield). Wear the kids out with swimming from 1-3 p.m. for only $10 per family. If Netflix binging isn’t your thing, while the kids swim, you can head off to Community Yoga at Reach Yoga (688 Vernon Avenue, Glencoe). This free class celebrates the newly certified teachers at Reach and is from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
My dream: After the kids woke up from their nap, that they would surely need after swimming, I would be showered with homemade gifts and the most thoughtful gift of all: a day at the salon.
Make it your reality: Dads, there’s still time to have the kids make a gift. Take the kids to the Great Lakes Naval Museum (42 Farragut Ave., Great Lakes) and have them make Mums for Mums. The museum is free and open to the public from 1-3 p.m. All supplies are provided, and children will even learn about the plant’s life cycle.
Make sure to  stop at mom’s favorite salon on the way home, and pick up a gift certificate (most are not open on Sunday, Saturday is as last minute as you can get). My favorite is Alwin Anthony (250 Center St. Grayslake), an eco-friendly salon. They will be hosting a Stella Dot pop-up shop on Saturday, 12-2 p.m., so you can get mom some bling to go with her gift certificate.
My dream: We would end the day with dinner out, because who wants to cook and clean? I’m sure my husband remembered to make reservations at our family favorite, Trattoria Pomigliano (602 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville). Of course, when we got home, he would tell me to put my feet up while he put all the kids to bed.
Happy Mother's Day! What's your perfect day look like?
