MOD Pizza is the answer to pizza night drama

If your family is anything like mine, pizza night can be a bit of a nightmare. No one ever wants the same thing.

“Double cheese.”

“Hold the mushrooms.”

“Veggies only.”

“How many toppings can I add?”

That’s what makes MOD Pizza so great. The chain, which has seven locations throughout Chicagoland (including a brand new spot in Naperville), serves pizza that is 100 percent customizable. Want pesto, pineapple and pepperoni on one pie? Have at it. (The stomachache’s on you.) MOD offers nearly 50 mix-and-match options, including veggies, meats, cheeses and “bases,” so your pizza is exactly the way you like.

Not so creative with your pizza building? MOD’s got your back. The nine Classic Pizza options range from the meaty Mad Dog to the vegetarian Tristan to mouth-burning Calexico (be sure to grab a house-made lemonade or locally brewed draft beer to quench your thirst). There are also seasonal options, like the Cooper (pictured, with asparagus, red peppers, Italian sausage and more), only available for a limited time. And you can add and subtract toppings to make sure these pizzas perfectly fit your children’s ever-changing moods.

For the pickiest of eaters, the Maddy is a safe choice (cheese pizza FTW). Those with intolerances can even get a gluten-free crust for an extra $2.

Surprisingly for a place that has “pizza” in its name, there are options for those who prefer to go pie-less. MOD’s salads are also fully customizable, with three pre-set options. And if you believe the crust is the best part of pizza, opt for the MOD Pizza Salad, where a warm asiago pizza crust gets topped with your healthy veggie choices.

For kids or those with smaller appetites, the Mini size ($4.87) will likely suffice, while adults should choose the still-affordable Mod ($7.87). If you’re the all-in-this-together type of family, the Mega ($10.87) should keep everyone satisfied – and maybe leave you with some leftovers.

My family went for a combo of make-your-own and Classic styles, but couldn’t find room for some of the delicious-sounding extras MOD offers, like the Garlic or Cinnamon Strips, MODshakes and floats. The good news is, we’ll definitely be back. And I can’t wait to see which combo will hit the spot next time.
