Millennium Park ice rink opens today

It’s officially winter in Chicago, and not just because the warming lights on the El platforms are starting to get seriously competitive.

Kicking off the city’s winter season for the 10th year running, the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park opens today. It will remain open through Sunday, March 13, 2011, weather permitting.The rink draws more than 100,000 skaters annually, including these tiny gliders, captured on a day last winter:
