Get out there and play

 

Set your eyes on the skies this weekend when you head out to the Army Wings& Wheels Air Show at the Poplar Grove Airport, 11619 Route 76, Poplar Grove. During the two-day air-show-meets-road-rally event, your family can watch vintage World War II aircraft and military vehicles during demonstrations, take-off and landing competitions, displays and talks with former military pilots, including a Tuskegee airman. Plenty of World War II re-enactors will also be on hand.

 

Saturday features a flying event for Liaison Aircraft, which includes spot landing and combat message drops beginning at 10:30 a.m. A Liaison Aircraft is a small aircraft developed before World War II. On Sunday, watch narrated flight demonstrations of the Liaison Aircraft as well as an examination of the military vehicles at 1 p.m.

 

Bridge assault battle reenactments occur at various times throughout the weekend by members of the Historical Reenactment Society. For a full schedule of events, visit the Web site. The Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum will be open both days.

 

The Army Wings& Wheels Air Show runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4, $2 kids 6-18, $10 per family or carload, free World War II veterans. For more information, call (815) 964-8610 or visit the Web site, www.armywingsandwheels.com.
