Think—and act—like a critter with the Morton Arboretum, located at Interstate 88 and Route 53 in Lisle, as it opens its newest exhibit, Animal Houses, Friday. The exhibit showcases 11 oversized and interactive animal shelters that give your family a chance to climb, perch and explore, just like skunks, spiders and polliwogs.
The exhibit’s goal is to teach visitors the importance of trees—the arboretum’s specialty—and the environment. Animal houses are scattered throughout the arboretum with shelters such as the Beaver Lodge and Great Blue Heron Rookery in the wetlands near Bur Reed Marsh and an Ant Colony and Coyote Den at the Schulenberg Prairie. Special animal house-themed drop-in programs, including guided walks, exhibits and family education programs, are offered in the Children’s Garden.
Animal Houses is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. or sunset from May 22-Nov. 15. Admission is free with arboretum admission, which is , kids 3-17, free kids 2 and under. Discounts are available on Wednesdays. For more information, call (630) 968-0074 or visit mortonarb.org.

Discover the stars with your family this weekend at Telescopes: Through the Looking Glass opening Friday at Adler Planetarium, 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago. Check out a few of the oldest telescopes, some of which are seen for the first time in this exhibition, learn how they work and help explore our universe through interactive areas. There are more than 100 telescopes on display, including a working 20-foot telescope that was built in 1675 that you can take a peek through.
