LEGOLAND on the hunt for the next Master Builder

Daniel Morey is a LEGOLAND Master Builder, and all day long he says he fields the same question from the hundreds of kids he meets at the Schaumburg LEGOLAND Discovery Center: “How can I be a master builder when I grow up?”

Chicagland kids can get a head start with LEGLOAND Discovery Center Chicago’s first-ever MINIMASTER Model Builder. Starting April 21, aspiring LEGO Masters can upload a 90-second video on the center’s Facebook page making their pitch.

The winner gets to work one-on-one with Morey in eight half-hour sessions, plus a master LEGO Model Builder session for his or her entire school class.

If you’re interested but don’t have a video camera or webcam at home, LEGOLAND is offering video tapings on April 5, April 12 and April 19 foam 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Morey says the selection committee will be looking for creativity above all. “That’s the most important thing to have as a master builder,” he says.

The coolest thing Morey’s ever built? A life-sized bust of legendary Cubs announcer Harry Caray, which he says took about 80 hours of building and is now on display at the Harry Caray’s restaurant in River North.
