The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events provides free kits for kids to design and create their own kite. There will also be crafts and face painting. Weather permitting, the festival will also include the Big Kite Candy Drop, a piñata-like kite filled with candies that drop from the sky.

A day-long event that combines the Community Kite Fly and Family Nature Fest. Several organizations host outdoor educational activities for all ages. Children can learn about nature while having fun through activities such as constructing bird houses, tree-climbing, exploring insect and animal habitats, and creating nature note cards. Other activities include archery, slack-lining, and lessons on bike safety.
A day-long event that combines the Community Kite Fly and Family Nature Fest. Choose from over 25 different nature-related educational sessions and activities including tree climbing, pond dipping for macro-invertebrates, nature crafts and more. Parents and children can explore the lives of insects, mammals, raptors and other animals. Plus, take part in the kite fly. Lunch, snacks and beverages are available for purchase.

Watch kite demonstrations and participate in the Grand Launch at 11:15 a.m. Concessions will be available along with a highest flying kite contest, a most unique kite contest, a kids candy drop, kite sales, and a small business expo. Bring your own kite or purchase one on-site.
Guests can take part in a grand launch, watch demonstrations by the Chicago Fire Kite Team, compete in the Highest Flying Kite and Most Unique Kite contests, gather treats during the Kids Candy Drop, and shop new kites from vendors.
The Chicago Kite Club does demonstrations and shows off their assortment of kites. At 2 p.m., take part in the “Candy Drop,” which allows the kids to collect candy that falls from the kites. There will also be opportunities to make your own kite.
Enjoy this forgotten pastime on a beautiful spring day. Kites are provided; please register by May 4.
