Get out there and play

It’s a bird, it’s a plane! It’s the 10th annual South Shore Air Show. From noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, watch one of the nation’s largest over-water air shows from the shores of Lake Michigan in Gary, Ind. Expect to see the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, a Sea Harrier F/A2, L-39, an F-18 Super Hornet, a F-16, The Lima Lima Flight Team, plus plenty of aerobatic demonstrations.

The air show includes free parking, a free shuttle to the Marquette Park beach and free admission. Jumpstart your weekend at 6 p.m. Friday with an evening show at the Gary/Chicago Airport, a fee is charged for parking. For more information call (219) 554-2175 or visit garyairshow.com.

Kids’ megastars, The Wiggles, are on their new U.S. tour and are making two stops in Illinois with their“Go Bananas” show, Aug. 15-16 in Chicago at the Rosemont Theater. Enjoy a wee bit of Irish this weekend at the Irish American Heritage Festival held on the grounds of the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N. Knox Ave., Chicago. This annual family event features three days of live music on seven stages, ethnic dancing, food and kids’ activities.
