Indoor fun for rainy days

Parents dream of a place where we can take our kids to play safely and burn off energy while we sit with a magazine or check our e-mail. Two new indoor play venues look to make our dreams come true.

For city dwellers, Day Frog provides a large, immaculately clean space where kids can let their bodies and imaginations run wild. Giant covered slides, scooters, trikes and plenty of room to run add up to fun physical activity.

Kids can also find quiet play with costumes, two well-equipped train tables, games and puppets.

Day Frog boasts an excellent staff that engages the children and maintains order, making it easier for parents to relax. They also run classes throughout the day, such as music, art and cooking, which are free with admission.

Parking rates in the area are steep (even with the Day Frog discount) so consider public transportation or hope for the lucky metered street spot.

For west suburban families, Little Monkey Bizness packs together an indoor play center and coffee shop.

The enclosed play area has several large climbing structures, multiple slides and an inflatable bounce house to keep kids constantly on the move. The playful staff pushes kids on swings, keeps guests playing safely and administers to the occasional boo-boo. Babies under 2 are welcome in a special enclosed area filled with soft toys, still in the center of the action, but safe.

The café area overlooks the play space, allowing parents to keep an eye on their children while enjoying coffee, sandwiches or a snack. Outside food is not permitted. Both locations are no shoes, so remember socks.
