Does your child think eggs come from the grocery store? That milk comes from a carton? Take them for a farm stay and introduce them to the journey our food takes to our tables, from the hen and the cow to our packaged eggs and milk.

Rainbow Ridge Farm in Wisconsin offers overnight stays in a warm, friendly bed and breakfast. Nestled in the serene Onalaska Valley, a short ride from LaCrosse, Rainbow Ridge invites families to connect with its friendly animals.

Your hosts, Cindy and Donna, will welcome you into their family of llamas, goats, chickens, ducks, donkeys and sheep. Children will have the chance to milk a goat, nurse a"kid” with a bottle, feed the animals their morning breakfast and collect the eggs that will be a part of the rich and nutritious country-style breakfast of homemade and farm fresh goodies.

Rooms feature cast iron tubs and views of a tranquil pond. Prices start at just $89 per night, including breakfast. Area activities include antique shopping, hiking, golf, horseback riding and fishing.

Spend an afternoon at a working dairy farm, home to more than 200 cattle, at Hinchley’s Dairy Farm, about an hour and 45 minutes from Chicago in Cambridge, Wis. Meet the newborn calves, milk a cow and feed the barnyard animals. Hop on the hay ride through 2,300 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa fields.

Stay awhile and spend the night in Cambridge on the shores of the charming Lake Ripley at a cozy bed and breakfast, the Lake Ripley Lodge. Boat, swim, fish or just relax on the porch overlooking the lake.
