Happy Halloween week! If you’re looking to have some happily haunted fun outside, The Morton Arboretum is ready to celebrate with guests in a variety of festive ways this coming week and on Halloween.
Break out the costumes and check out what tricks and treats await among the trees! (All events are included with admission to the Arboretum unless otherwise noted.)
Splendid Spiders
Weekdays in October: 1-4 p.m.; Weekends in October: 11 a.m.-4 p.m at The Children’s Garden.
Spiders may seem spooky and provoke screams from the skittish (that would be me), but they have gotten a pretty bum rap. The Arboretum staff thinks that the creatures are spectacular–in part because they help gardens–and is looking to set the record straight on the creepy crawly creatures. Learn what makes spiders so awesome and check out some spider specimens at these sessions
Halloween at the Arb, with Tricks or Trees
Oct. 31, 2015; All children under the age of 17 are admitted free. Regular admission fee applies for non-member adults.
At Trick or Trees, kids can play tricky games, fashion fall crafts and plant a tree seed to take home from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Children’s Garden. Small pumpkins to paint will also be available for purchase. A trick-or-treating scavenger hunt will take place from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. and Halloween costumes are encouraged.
Boo Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for little ghouls and goblins. Start your Halloween off with a ton of fun at this breakfast complete with visits from favorite characters, a make-your-own birdseed craft and a Halloween-themed cookie.
Scarecrow Trail

Scarecrows created by some inventive local scout troops are interspersed among the beautiful trees lining the Meadow Lake Trail. Check out their creativity and be sure to vote for your favorite scarecrow.
Nature Connects: Art with Lego bricks by Sean Kenney
This is your last chance to check out this truly amazing exhibit that features 464,770 Lego bricks in 13 larger-than-life displays inspired by nature! The exhibit ends on Sunday, Nov. 1. Be sure to check out the spider sculpture – it may be a little out of the way, but it’s pretty impressive.
