Best north suburban gyms to work out with kids in tow

New year, new you and all other resolution slogans aside, maybe you really are trying to get back into the gym in 2016. Or maybe you’re in totally awesome shape now and looking to up the awesomeness.

No matter the case, if your biggest obstacle is a finding an hour or two for exercise without having to worry about the kids, here are a few of my favorite places to squeeze in a great workout––and the little ones can come, too.

LA Fitness

I love this gym for its wide range of classes, equipment and the convenient Kids Klub, where kids can color, run around on colorful indoor play structures or watch a movie. The service is open to members for a small drop-in fee or as a monthly membership add-on.

115 Skokie Valley Road, Highland Park

3880 Willow Road, Glenview

Recreation Center of Highland Park

Take an indoor cycle class, swim in the six-lane pool or break a sweat in 5,000 square feet of fitness center fun. Located right in the heart of town, this beautiful club welcomes both members and guests to take advantage of Kid Fit, where little ones will enjoy a variety of activities for a small drop-in fee.

1207 Park Ave. West, Highland Park

Five Seasons Sports Club

Chances are you’ll finish your workout long before the kids want to leave. With multiple tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor pool and plenty of cardio and weight equipment, Five Seasons is a family-friendly (and huge!) place for everyone to get active. Younger kids will stay entertained in the kid’s room with coloring and playing. Members also enjoy several special events throughout the year, from socials to summer barbecues.

1300 Techny Road, Northbrook

Sach’s Recreation Center

I drove through the shopping center that houses Sach’s about 92 times before realizing it was there, but don’t let the self-effacement fool you. Inside you’ll find multiple gyms, a pool, group exercise classes and much more. (Plus, it’s where the Bulls used to train––so by simply stepping inside, you’ll be in pro-player shape. Magic!) Kids Korner lets little ones draw and play games while you give your heart rate a boost. The service is open to members as a monthly membership add-on.

455 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield

Park Center Health and Fitness

Choose from more than 120 group fitness classes offered each week, walk or run the indoor track, or swim some laps followed by a soak in the whirlpool––all while the kiddos color and play. Childcare is open to members as a monthly membership add-on.
