Graco recalls two million strollers after four infant deaths

After four infant deaths, Graco is recalling 2 million Quattro and MetroLite strollers and stroller travel systems. The danger comes when babies are not properly strapped in. They can fall through the gap between the seat and the tray, or their necks can fall against the tray causing the entrapment and strangulation.

This is the third widespread stroller recall this year and the second in three weeks. About 12,000 jogging strollers mad by Valcro Baby were recalled earlier this month, though no injuries have been reported.

The strollers were sold at large retail stores, including Babies R Us, Walmart, Burlington Coat Factory and others between November 2000 and December 2007. The strollers ran between $90 and $190, and the travel systems ran between $190 and $250.

For a complete list of model numbers, visit http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml11/11015.html. They are printed on a label near the lower portion of the back frame just above the back wheels or underneath the stroller. Contact Graco at 877-828-4046 or atgracobaby.com for instructions.

The stroller can still be used as a “travel system” with the infant car seat. The entrapment and strangulation hazards posed by the space gap are not present.
