Finger licking good Sundays at Gemini Bistro in Chicago

Get ready for a Sunday family dinner like no other. Gemini Bistro, an upscale, inviting restaurant in the heart of Lincoln Park, recently launched its Family Fried Chicken Sundays—and it’s a tasty way to wind up the weekend.

Served family style, the dinner special includes buttermilk fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, country biscuits, house-churned honey butter and a bottle of Crystal hot sauce.

And this is not your run-of-the mill fried chicken.

The deliciously crispy buttermilk fried chicken takes three days to prepare. On Friday, chicken is soaked in a brine spiked with juniper berries, cinnamon, clove and bay leaves. On Saturday, the chicken soaks in buttermilk with fresh lemon, Tabasco, and southern spices before finally being dipped in flour and cooked for Sunday’s dinner.

We left raving about the entire experience, from the food to the ambiance to the service. The chicken leftovers came with us and were used the next night sliced on a salad, still just as heavenly. The fried chicken meal is available in five pieces () and 10 pieces ().

Not a fried chicken fanatic? Well, you’re missing out, but have no fear, the regular menu is still available on Sundays. Options like the short rib ravioli, steak frites and asparagus risotto are all winners. There is a separate kids menu with all entrees, and kids will love the kiddie cocktails like the Shirley Temple and Roy Rogers.
