Go green at the Green City Market

You probably already know that the Green City Market in Lincoln Park is the city’s premiere destination for organic local produce and other artisan products. But did you know that market also offers tons of activities for little ones? From the Edible Garden project in the nearby Farm in the Zoo to the Sprouts for Kids activity table, your kids can play and learn while you pick up your produce.

The Edible Garden. On market days from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., head over to the Farm in the Zoo exhibit at the Lincoln Park Zoo where kids can get their hands dirty and check out what is sprouting in this organic garden. Little ones help plant, weed and harvest. Starting in September, kids can cook garden produce in the farmhouse kitchen and take recipes home with them.

Savor the Seasons.Kids (and their parents) will love “tastings” scheduled throughout the season, where you can sample different varieties of strawberries, blueberries, apples and other organic produce.

Sprouts for Kids. Little market-goers can play at the Sprouts for Kids activity table on market days from June 18-Sept. 27. Stop by to draw a picture of a favorite food or make a healthy snack.

Chef Demonstrations.Older children might be inspired to get cooking by watching one of Chicago’s top chefs whip up delicious dishes using organic ingredients from the market.
