The new Froyo on Southport Avenue in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood offers more than its famous yummy yogurt with rows of toppings. This location hosts a monthly storytime with The Storybook Mom, aka Nili Yelin, as well as The Fun Zone, a playroom with tiny tables and activities.
If you go
Storybook sessions are 11 a.m. the fourth Thursday of each month.
3746 N. Southport, Chicago
The Storybook Mom is a lady who knows how to tell a story. She launches into an amusing and theatrical performance that is both interactive and creative. She manages to do what most of us can’t: Keep a room of 2- to 4-year-olds riveted and entertained.
While we know Froyo serves frozen yogurt flavors such as yellow cake batter, peppermint stick, peanut butter and vegan coconut that can be deluged with treats like candy, cookies and syrups before getting weighed for payment, it also offers a range of healthy options that are just as delicious.
Or try the self-serve breakfast bar with slow-cooked, organic steel cut oatmeal with toppings like brown sugar, cinnamon, dates, raisins, cranberries, shredded coconut, almonds (all organic) and other tantalizing options.
Froyo also offers a “superfoods” section with items like wheat germ, acai berries, quinoa, chia seeds, flaxseed and noni.
