Happy Birthday, America! The annual time of year when you start to see lots of blue in swimming pools, white pillows of whipped cream and red burned skin courtesy of the summer sun. This past weekend, I visited a local waterpark and found myself a bit too friendly with the sun despite my best sunscreen efforts. After perusing Pinterest and testing out a few methods, I found my favorite one and thought I’d share with you.
Natural sunburn relief: Apple cider vinegar and coconut oil
Head out to your local store and pick up some apple cider vinegar (I found mine in the condiments aisle near the dressing) and a jar of coconut oil. I recommend doing this each night before bed while you’re healing. Start by soaking paper towels in apple cider vinegar and draping on the burned skin. Allow skin to soak a bit. Remove towels and carefully pat dry. Slather your skin in coconut oil and wear a light T-shirt to protect your bedding from the oils. Repeat until fully healed. I found that the apple cider vinegar removed the sting from the burn and the oil was soothing. It moisturized my skin, had a nice smell, and helped to remove the red and pink tones fairly quickly. I will definitely be using this remedy again in the unfortunate event that I do not take enough precautionary measures to protect myself!
Enough about the ouch. Let’s get ready to celebrate our nation’s birthday! Here are some of my favorite pins from fellow bloggers, Chicagoans and on Pinterest.
