Pinterest Tested: Listerine foot soak good for multi-taskers

With the holidays around the corner and the hustle and bustle of decorating, wrapping, and baking in our midst, we sometimes forget about pampering ourselves. What if you could do something at-home while you did other things that might feel like you’re at a spa?

After asking friends and readers, one of the biggest pins that people wanted to know whether or not it worked was aListerine Foot Soak. Time to put it to the test!

What you’ll need:

  • Big basin or bowl
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • ¾ cup Listerine (I used Colgate mouthwash that I had on hand)
  • ¾ cup white vinegar
  • Towel

The “recipe” is pretty simple. Mix the liquid ingredients together in a large bowl and soak feet for about 10 minutes. When done, dead skin and tougher portions of built-up calluses should be easily removed and brushed away.

Now the real question-did it work? Some benefits to the soak were that I had everything on hand. Whether in my kitchen or bathroom, I already had the ingredients. I also thought it created a lovely smell in my space as I soaked my feet. Even better, I sat at my kitchen table working on my computer while my feet were being treated. A definite plus for moms (and dads!) who like to multi-task. When my 10 minutes were up, my feet felt noticeably softer, but the recipe did not end in my dead skin just sliding off and into the bowl.

After thinking about it and looking around on Pinterest for some feedback, I’ve put together some suggestions that might help make this pin work even better for you. Use hot water. If you can stand it a little warmer, that will help during the soak and also ensures that the water isn’t freezing at the end of the time period. Soak your feet for longer than the suggested 10-minute time period. Many pinners found that soaking their feet longer yielded better results. Finally, be wary of discolorations in your feet as a result. Some pinners mentioned that different brands and varieties of mouthwash might temporarily stain your skin. Using yellow brands seemed to result in less of that.
