I’m not a Chicago native, but I’m a city girl at heart. As soon as I graduated from The University of Michigan I hightailed it out of my home state to the big city of… New York. Which I found very fun to live as a young, single lady, but always knew deep down that New York wasn’t going to be the best place for me to raise a family.
Chicago solves all for me when it came to settling down – it’s a big city with a suburban feel (you can still drive to Costco), hip without being too grungy (no graffiti on my house), urban and yet, hospitable (drive thru McDonald’s abound.) Yes, Chicago is my permanent home now and I plan to educate my two young sons so they clearly understand what it means to be a Chicagoan (they must not root for the Packers.)
Besides teaching my youngsters all that is rich about the Second City, I also like to write. And talk. And meet people. I started my personal blog back in 2006 for that very reason – I needed to meet people who were working moms just like me. Now that I’m a full-time mom and part-time everything else, I hope to use this space to journal what I like about my neighborhood, what I find interesting about Chicago for kids and where I like to shop. Yes, shop. Because what else are you going to do while trying to get a baby to sleep in the stroller?
