Walk like an Egyptian down to the Oriental Institute Museum Sunday from 1-4 p.m. for the Mysteries and Mummies event. Use your super sleuth skills and check out ancient Egypt with films—including“Mummies Made in Egypt”—tour the ancient Egyptian Gallery and take a self-guided treasure hunt. Learn to write your name in hieroglyphs and make a souvenir that looks like it’s straight from ancient Egypt.
The Mysteries and Mummies program is set to celebrate African-American Heritage Month with the current exhibit,“The Life of Meresamun: A Temple Singer of Ancient Egypt.” The exhibit looks at the life of an Egyptian priestess through art, science and the actual mummy.

This weekend is literally going to the dogs. The International Kennel Club of Chicago Dog Show hits McCormick Place Saturday and Sunday with more than 9,000 fuzzy four-legged competitors in 169 breeds vying for top prize.
Saturday’s events include breed judging, agility, rally and obedience competitions and junior showmanship. Dog show lovers will flip over meeting last year’s Westminster Kennel Club winner, Uno the beagle, who is signing“pawtographs” for his fans. Uno will appear at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Sunday concludes the breed and group judging as well as other competitions and the conclusion of Best in Show.
After taking in a few judging categories, watch demonstrations from seeing-eye dogs, canine companion for independence and Dogs for Disabled veterans. If your family is looking to adopt a dog, check out the Pro Plan Rally to Rescue Ambassadors, who are bringing adoptable dogs to meet and greet.

Check out a new sport this weekend at Our World Underwater on Saturday and Sunday. Although scuba diving might not seem inviting in the middle of February, the show will take you away from the frigid outdoors. The show is the oldest running scuba diving event of its kind and holds seminars, workshops, classes and plenty of booths to explore. Talk to the environmental agencies to learn what your family can do to help preserve the oceans and the environment. While you’re there on Saturday, make sure you stop by the Children’s Program area, open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., to see Chicago Parent.
