Fair Game, a new board game store in Downers Grove, is hosting the tournament, built around a popular card game that celebrates everything to do with that giggle-inducing bodily function.
In the game, players take on the role of a monkey whose sole goal is to throw as much “poo” on the other monkeys and be the cleanest one left at the end of the game. But don’t worry, parents, there’s no actual poop being thrown around-everything is on the cards.
The game is easy to learn in just minutes and a round lasts about 15 minutes-short enough for even younger kids to play.
Getting families together to play board games is what Fair Game is all about, says owner Josh Stein. The newly opened store features what he calls “hobby games,” ones not found at big-name retailers. So you won’t see Monopoly here, but you will find the German game Der Schwarze Pirat (“The Black Pirate” in English), in which players squeeze a little hand-held device to blow their ships around the board.
“We have a kids’ game section for kids age 3 and up. We also have group games for parties,” says Stein. “And we have role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons and heavy-duty war games that can go on for hours.”
The store also has a library of about 80 games visitors can check out and play before purchasing. “I encourage people, if you come in here and see an open table, to sit down and start playing,” Stein says. Or visit during scheduled tournaments or open play nights on Fridays for a chance to play a wide variety of board games.
“It’s about connecting with friends and the family,” Stein says. “The game is an excuse to sit at the table and talk.”
