ou don’t have to be the craftiest mom on the block to have fun with creating home-spun goodies for your family. Wishcraft can guide you through your creative process. Located at 2312 W. Roscoe St., Chicago, Wishcraft is the perfect place to learn how to sew, polish your crafting skills and take a little time away from the kids to let your brain have some non-kid-related fun.
Crafting doesn’t always have to be for kids, but the ideas tend to begin with them. Candice Blansett-Cummins wasn’t happy with the craftwork her son made in his crafting classes."The projects he was bringing home weren’t exactly his work,” because most of the work was done by the teachers at the craft center, she says. To provide her family and others a chance to craft using their own creativity, Blansett-Cummins, the mom of two, found a place to lease and created a Web site for her new studio. Wishcraft opened five weeks later.
The studio offers a variety of eight-week classes, which begin in September, as well as open craft times and parties. Especially for time with girlfriends, Mom’s Night Out parties can be tailored to your ideas and skill levels. Classes for kids are also offered.
Ecocraft, one way Wishcraft pushes living an earth-friendly life, encourages recycling materials from household items through your crafting experience. For example, turn those cardboard sleeves you get with your cup of coffee into a treasured and inspirational cuff bracelet.
Although Wishcraft stocks supplies for basic necessities, be prepared to bring your own supplies. The studio provides a shopping list ahead of time. Through the summer, Wishcraft is offering two-hour workshops aimed at creating something for your kids.
