Endangered African pups born at Brookfield zoo

Just two weeks after the birth of an endangered gibbon at the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Brookfield Zoo announced the birth of a litter of 10 African wild dog pups born Thanksgiving Day.

The 2-month-old pups, six males and four females, have not yet been named, and will remain off exhibit until spring. But you can keep an eye on the growing pups with a video loop available at the exhibit and online on the zoo’s YouTube page.

The litter was one of only three born in a North American zoo in 2010. African wild dogs, also known as painted dogs, have been part of Brookfield Zoo since 1985 and in that time, two other successful litters have been born – one in 1998 that had five pups and another in 2000 that had four pups.

The pups join their mother, Kim, father Digger and Digger’s brother Duke.
