Get out there and play

With all of the snow Chicago has received this week, now is the perfect time to bundle up and head outdoors to play. Saturday and Sunday the Morton Arboretum will host Winter Wonderland in the Children’s Garden, which will include building a snowman and decorating it with materials found in nature. If there’s not enough snow on Saturday from 11 a.m-4 p.m., plenty of other activities are available.

Hit the trails on a 20-minute Cool Kids Nature Hike at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. On Sunday warm up and enjoy a few wintry tales while you ride around the grounds on the Evergreen Express, a heated trolley, for an extra fee. The ride includes snacks and cocoa. The Morton Arboretum is hosting a train exhibit, The Holiday Railroad, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Jan. 4.

Advance tickets for the Evergreen Express are – in advance and – (which includes arboretum admission). Call (630) 725-2066 for tickets and ride times. Now through Jan. 4, admission is free for kids with a paying adult. General admission is , seniors. The Morton Arboretum is located at 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle. Hours are 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily. Wish upon a Chicago star this weekend while your family listens to the"When You Wish Upon a Star: The Magic of a Disney Holiday” concert at the Preston Bradley Hall in the Chicago Cultural Center. Local Chicago cabaret performers will perform Disney classics and a few holiday jingles.
