See color in a whole new light at Kohl Children’s Museum’s Color Play exhibit, then head outside to the newly renovated Habitat Park.
Color Play features more than a dozen stations where kids can explore the connection between light and color and the general science and art of color. “Everything is hands-on, ready for them to explore,” says Janella Watson, marketing and sales manager for the museum. Exploration will lead to learning at stations like Prism’s Rainbow where kids separate white light into color. Nearby, they can create a color storm of flying feathers by pedaling with their hands. An exhibit highlight is the Color Play House with three multi-hued rooms that transform at the flip of a light switch.
Outside, Habitat Park offers four new additions to explore. Touch the new water-painting wall, see bugs and hear birds in the Sensory Garden and let little ones release their inner monkey on the Animal Movements climbing structure. “The basic point … is to mimic the movement of the animals in their natural habitat,” Watson says. Other additions include the Imagination Hut and Demonstration Area, where environment experts and museum staff will lead activities.
Habitat Park is a permanent exhibit but you may want to get your kids out there while it’s warm. Color Play is open until Sept. 6. Adults and children are $7.50. Children under 1 are free. Visit www.kohlchildrensmuseum.org for museum hours.
